Rockabilly DJ

Found this within in a link about the guy selling his mates crap record collection. Cannae mind the link noo, but it doesnae matter cause here comes...

Rockabilly DJ

"The hottest in Rockabilly, Rhythm & Blues, Hillbilly and 1950s style Rock'n'Roll presented by The Rockabilly DJ, Bill Smoker. Broadcasting from the world-famous studio under the stairs in Croydon, south London. This show is also broadcast twice weekly on http://www.rockabillyradio.net"

All of the shows, goin back to January 08 can be streamed, but I'd recommend the ol' 'right click an save link' method, solely because hunners of the tunes are brilliant and should be on yer pc or that.

Scratch

(from imdb)
"A feature-length documentary film about hip-hop DJing, otherwise known as turntablism. From the South Bronx in the 1970s to San Francisco now, the world's best scratchers, beat-diggers, party-rockers, and producers wax poetic on beats, breaks, battles, and the infinite possibilities of vinyl."

Watch the film here:

But if you're anything like me, you'll have far more fun listening to the soundtrack (sorry it's rapidshare, mediafire is being a jobby)

And moving on, looking back again...

...in the same vein, I just noticed that Bloc are starting to upload recordings from this year's festival; the first of which being A Guy Called Gerald's set, from the Sunday in the tiny Ableton dome venue. Rough pre house jams (or proto-house, is it aye..?) To be honest it sounds like it's been ripped off a cassette tape that's been kicking about since 84 too. The Guy To Gerald's Right appears to have been feeling it. Pretty interesting anyway, if you want your retro electronic buttons pushed, as is the Billy Nasty mix linked on that page from Bloc a couple of years ago. It will definitely be worth checking back here to see what else gets uploaded.

Stream it right inside you

Today I am mostly listening to...

... house music documentaries.
Further to Tulley's post of the High Tech Soul film, there's something a bit similar for house music on BBC6 at the mo - Dave Pearce interviews Frankie Knuckles on the 6Mix.

This is the first interview I've heard with the big man, and he's pretty interesting. As is Dave Pearce in fact (despite looking well downsy in the promo pic) reminiscing about going down to the Paradise Garage at 5am to interview Gwen Guthrie and such - some time in early 80s I guess. Plus loads of classic house of course. Get on it here.

An interview with the god-like genius Dimitri from Paris on RA's Exchange series. Another interesting exploration of the late disco/early house scene, with a French twist this time. Available from the RA website now. There's quite a few in that series that look interesting at the mo, have a browse.

I'm rather liking this wee mix from the somewhat dodgily-named Frenchman, Jay Weed. Grab it from Fact here: factmag.com/2011/05/13/fact-mix-247-jay-weed/. House music with a dubstep soundscape aesthetic, insofar as the likes of Rhythm & Sound et al make either house or dubstep. Quite tasty anyway.

And finally, here's something I hadn't heard in ages till Benji B played it on his show this week. Please do not be alarmed, remain calm...

Lorn

After almost a year with no regular internet access I can finally make some additions to this fine Forum. I may well be a little behind with the latest releases, but here's some of what I've been feasting my lugholes on over the last year.I'll start with an American producer. Lorn.
He came to my attention because his début album was mastered by Chris Clark, and you can really feel it. I'm not particularly good at defining styles and genres but if I was pushed I'd say it was... Emo-step??

This track was taken from his Album, Nothing Else.

The 4 track EP titled, None an Island is worth a listen too.
