Pure Mad Movies

Time for another compilation tape I reckon . . .The recent death of the legend John Barry and the fact that I’m doing a bit of film at uni (I have a lecture on Blade Runner tomorrow. Being a student again fuckin rules) has made me think a bit about amazing film music and what an art form it is to be able to record or select the perfect music for your film. Anyway hope you all enjoy the compilation, and maybe go watch some of the films. I dare anyone not to fancy sitting down to watch 'Withnail and I' halfway into the first track.

Theo Parrish

I like watching Theo Parrish mix records, and I really don't care if the sound quality's not that good  . . .

kyngbee the Landlord

Here's something I came across the other day and thought I'd share - a mate of a mate of mine done a mix what is good. Classic Chicago house business, nice use of samples, good selection with some interesting versions of a few tracks, tight mixing... s'all good innit?

kyngbee Biog
Born in Leeds, West Yorkshire some time in the last century - kyngbee (with a small k) is a record collector, DJ, mix-tape ninja, Super-Villain and mask wearing internet radio behemoth.

Switched on to the funk from an early age, young Bee was selected to take part in a primitive English government bionics program rebuilding his broken body using parts of both an Oberheim DMX drum machine and a Roland 303, after he was run over, and seemingly mortally injured by Hall and Oates tour bus in 1983.

Bee disappeared from view for the next decade and a half building up his sonic arsenal, and legend has it during this time he worked on top secret disco black-ops mercenary missions internationally for the highest bidder.

New Dirtbombs dirty detroit dance-off

You may remember Charlestonjigger's post from November, in which the new Dirtbombs album of old detroit techno cover versions was discussed . . .well it's here and it's awesome and I've got three tracks here for your perusal - Good life, Strings of Life and Jaguar. I'd strongly advise everyone to purchase this awesome record, you can get the mp3s, cd or triple 12 inch vinyl here.

Not sure about the 21 minute version of 'bass bin' which features Carl Craig on modular synth, but otherwise I heavilly dig the post punk shambolic funkiness of this shit. It's good.

Rebellion: Jack Hammer Sings and Reads Songs and Poems of The Beat Generation (1960)

We love our kitchy beatnik vibes here in the Fireball household, this is an album I got while making mixes for the Beat Generation themed bar that Mrs Fireball used to run - I thought about it again while watching the beatnik scenes in Mad Men just recently and thought maybe I'd stick it up here in case any of you might dig those crazy vibes . . .

I had heard some Jack Hammer tunes on the famous 'Las Vegas Grind' compilations, but that was just some frantic twist music, while this is full on turtle neck, beret, goatee, coffee mug and Benzedrine fare . . .It's got a tune called 'A Hobo with an Oboe' for chrissake. These go for well over 100 bucks on collectors sites I hear. Enjoy it Daddy-O. . . .

Like, Wow!
