Time for another compilation tape I reckon . . .The recent death of the legend John Barry and the fact that I’m doing a bit of film at uni (I have a lecture on Blade Runner tomorrow. Being a student again fuckin rules) has made me think a bit about amazing film music and what an art form it is to be able to record or select the perfect music for your film. Anyway hope you all enjoy the compilation, and maybe go watch some of the films. I dare anyone not to fancy sitting down to watch 'Withnail and I' halfway into the first track.

Black Francis - 'Der Golem'

Black Francis of Pixies fame was commissioned to write a score for the 1920 German silent horror classic 'Der Golem' for the San Francisco film festival in 2008. He'll be releasing the music on November 16th as one hour 'Rock Opera'. Here's the film in it's entirety with Black Francis' score.The Golem is mythical monster which was created to protect the Jews of Prague but ends up running amok . . .

Awesome 80's Action Movie Mixtape

This mix is such a brilliant idea. It follows the time honoured arc of your classic 80's action film, from the solemn realisation that the only honourable path is to take up arms and vanquish the foe, through training, proving yourself worthy, fighting your way to the final showdown before administering the greatest beating of all time on your  unsuspecting nemesis, showing him his still beating heart as he dies in the knowledge that he has been comprehensively defeated by a superior force, cursing the day he was born as you triumphantly ride off with his wife.

In order to create this masterpiece, the DJ's DJA and Dirty South Joe have drawn on the soundtracks of classics such as bloodsport, kickboxer, the last dragon and of course all the Rocky movies. It's a great idea, expertly executed. I might start doing weights just so I can listen to this while I do it.
