The great man is dead. This calls for some kind of mammoth tribute compilation which I'll get on right away. Can't even explain how much this guy influenced the way I think about and listen to music. Sad day man . . .
I tend to forget what total legends Letterman used to get on his show. Can't see them putting such out-and-out weird bastards like Beefheart and Harvey Pekar on a similar show these days (except maybe Jon Stewart?) Putting them into skates and making them dance on thin ice certainly, but not actually sitting down and talking about their life and work in a coherent(ish) and (not very) sensible manner.
Anyways - thoroughly enjoyed that. Strawberry moth, strawberry mouth, strawberry caterpillar... Strawberry FIELDS. All the way to yllslither. On the heels of today's children. Captain Beefheart forever.
The colbert report tends to have music segments on quite a lot. Although its mainly pitchfork style but you get the feeling colbert just brings on bands he likes, which is good.
What a star. Safe as milk innit.
