I just had a moment of 'this sampled that' realisation whilst going through some records to sate a Diana Ross craving and thought I'd share it and ask a related question.
This Omar S belter 'Day' uses a sample from The Supremes' "Come See About Me' to brilliant effect.

So, does anyone know which house tune uses a sample from Diana Ross' 'Love Hangover', below? (from about 2:45 into the video) I can't for the life of me think what it is and it's right frustrating.

ReplyDeleteRon Hardy used to rinse it for one thing, it's on loads of his mixes - mostly just using that bassline you're talking about. Frankie Knuckles did a remix, as did Joey Negro, but I don't think either of those are what you're talking about.

Nope, not the Joey Negro tune. I didn't realise that there was a Frankie Knuckles version, I've just listened to it: it's good but it's not the one.

ReplyDeletetotally man, there's something very Inland Empire about the start of it too, I'm sure it all made sense after 5 Ludes and a half pound of coke back in 1978 Paris. That tune would actually lend itself very well to one of those anime fan videos folk make, what with all the talk of science creating hungry beasts that destroy mankind - from what I can tell that's what just about every Japanese animated movie is about. Apart from the ones that are about tear soaked underpants of course.
