this sampled that

Now then,

I just had a moment of 'this sampled that' realisation whilst going through some records to sate a Diana Ross craving and thought I'd share it and ask a related question.

This Omar S belter 'Day' uses a sample from The Supremes' "Come See About Me' to brilliant effect.

So, does anyone know which house tune uses a sample from Diana Ross' 'Love Hangover', below? (from about 2:45 into the video) I can't for the life of me think what it is and it's right frustrating.

  1. Hmm... good one. Bump-bum-bum-bum-badaladee, etc.

Ron Hardy used to rinse it for one thing, it's on loads of his mixes - mostly just using that bassline you're talking about. Frankie Knuckles did a remix, as did Joey Negro, but I don't think either of those are what you're talking about.

It could be this though? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiM2rG78_nU

  2. Cannae get Teddy Pendergrass/Sneak out of my head now - you can't hide from yourself and/or bud.

    Teddy.

  3. Nope, not the Joey Negro tune. I didn't realise that there was a Frankie Knuckles version, I've just listened to it: it's good but it's not the one.

  4. It's close, it's so close - but it's not right.

If it's not Big Willie Styles then I'm stumped.

  5. There's a version by Touch that appears on Dimitri from Paris' 'Disco Forever' mix, dunno if it's what you're after . . .

  6. Ooh yeah that is ringing major bells. Is that on one of the Playboy Mansion mixes as well?

As for embedding links, one has to be a geek... it accepts basic HTML code :) get yer hrefs sorted and you'll be away.

  7. Don't think it's on playboy mansion, unless it's on one of the ones I don't have.

While we're on the subject of disco, have you ever seen the original video for 'supernature'? It rules

OK lets see if I can do this

  8. That Touch tune is brilliant, proper massive hands in the air business. I've just gone and nabbed myself a copy for one English quid via the wonders of Discogs.

I'm going to assume that was the one I was thinking of until a better suggestion is made. (I still have a suspicion that someone in Chicago way back when sampled the OG...)

  9. Ha! That video is well funny. I love the bit where it cuts to the dude playing his multi-coloured opaque drumkit and then to the enigmatic naked girl in the jungle. WTF?

  10. totally man, there's something very Inland Empire about the start of it too, I'm sure it all made sense after 5 Ludes and a half pound of coke back in 1978 Paris. That tune would actually lend itself very well to one of those anime fan videos folk make, what with all the talk of science creating hungry beasts that destroy mankind - from what I can tell that's what just about every Japanese animated movie is about. Apart from the ones that are about tear soaked underpants of course.
